![]() Had a few too many Maß beers at the Cannstatter Volksfest and spilled bubespitzle down the boss's wife's blouse. In case you have two minutes to spare I invite you to define your needs, desires and budget and see which car would be chosen by the virtual adviser™, among more than 12.000 different ones in our database.Maybe Klaus-Peter Claar got crosswise with DaimlerChrysler's board of management. Nevertheless, let's not forget that people have different preferences and needs, so what really counts is your personal feel. It's really tough to make a final decision here, but if I'd need to, I'd say Audi. It does come at a cost though, and that's the fuel consumption. It all continues in the same direction, with Mercedes Benz offering somewhat better performance, just enough to call it quicker. In my opinion, everything taken into account, Mercedes Benz C offers slightly better overall protection and takes the lead. ![]() The most important thing when deciding between any two vehicles should always be safety, both passive and active. Mercedes Benz appears just a bit more reliable, although the difference is truly marginal. We can't ignore that 9% difference compared to Mercedes Benz C. When it comes to fuel economy the winner has to be Audi A4, averaging around 8.2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (34 mpg), in combined cycle. In addition to that it accelerates all the way to 240 kilometers per hour, 12km/h more than the other car. Mercedes Benz is a bit more agile, reaching 100km/h in 0.5 seconds less than its competitor. The same official information place C as average reliability-wise, and A4 is more or less at the same level. That apart, owners of different cars powered by the same engine as Mercedes Benz C rank it on average as 5.0, while the one under the competitor's bonnet gets 3.7 out of 5. These are the results of an independent reasearch, while our visitors describe reliability of Mercedes Benz with an average rating of 4.4, and models under the Audi badge with 4.1 out of 5. Reliability is not the best thing to consider on the make level, but it is worth mentioning that both brands display similar results in faults and breakdowns, at least on all of the models level. Both vehicles belong to the large family car segment, which is generally a good thing safety-wise, still it doesn't help us solve our dilemma, does it? Furthermore, if we'd like to consider vehicle mass in this context too, which we definitely should, Audi A4 offers a marginal difference of 1% more metal. Moving further on, let's take a closer look at some additional safety-related facts. SafetyĪ starting point here would be to take a look at the results from European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) tests which were performed on both of the cars, with the Mercedes Benz being a slightly better choice apparently. The first one has a Mercedes Benz-engineered powertrain under the hood, a 4-cylinder, 16-valves 192hp unit, while the other one gets its power and torque from a 4-cylinder, 20-valves 163hp engine designed by Audi. Having both cars powered by petrol engines and utilizing the 4-door sedan body style within the same 'Large family car' segment, the only major difference here really is their wheel drive configuration (rear for the Mercedes Benz and front in the case of the Audi). Still, each one has something different to offer. Two significantly similar cars, no doubt about that.
